The Person and the Story Behind Cracked Glass

Cracked Glass is a glass art studio based in Phoenix, Arizona, specializing in fused glass art. My portfolio showcases a vibrant collection of glass pieces, ranging from stunning unique functional glass, such as coasters, to mesmerizing sculptural art objects, such as bowls. With a passion for creativity, my hope is to transform the ordinary into extraordinary, inviting guests of this site to experience the beauty and versatility of fused glass artistry.

My art took an evolutionary turn from designing and creating stained glass windows/panels to designing and creating fused glass art. Inspiration is drawn from modern art and the simple lines, circles, patterns and colors observed in everyday life. Cracked Glass's goal is to bring the joy of fused glass to those who are captivated by the geometrical designs and the play on color and light has on glass. You are invited to explore in my artistic journey, where creativity is found in every cut, break, color, sprinkle and fuse. Born in the Midwest, drawn to New York before relocating to Phoenix. I'm most at peace when I'm designing and creating. I am fascinated by how light plays with color, and can completely transform an environment -- sometimes with subtle effects, other times with dynamic bursts of radiance and vibrancy.

Behind the Scenes

An application, such as Rapid Resizer, is used to assist in the design and color choice and color placement (image on left). The completed piece piece is depicted on the right.

After assembly, this gorgeous piece was made by bringing it to a full fuse in the kiln at
high temperatures for a set period of time. This allowed all the pieces to "melt" together,
(left photo). The next step was to form the piece into the desired shape, called slumping.
This too is done in the the kiln. In this instance a shallow platter mold was used, (middle
photo). After it came out of kiln, more work went into it by "coldworking" the edges. For
this piece, both a regular grinder and a flat lap grinder were used to finish the edges.
